About Me

I am a New England native whose first career was in finance. I left that to pursue a Master of Divinity degree, first at Boston University School of Theology, then transferring to Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. I graduated and was ordained by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 2004, and have served congregations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Iowa. I’m now focusing my professional efforts on writing while raising my two young children.

I have been writing for nearly 30 years, first as a hobby, then as a regular part of my work as parish pastor. I recently published my first book, Luther’s Catechism: A Modern Reflection here at Quiet Publications. Before that I had several sermons published on www.DesperatePreacher.com and a short piece included in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Miracles Happen. Since November 2011 I’ve been publishing a devotional blog based on one of the readings assigned by the daily lectionary as it appears in the back of Evangelical Lutheran Worship, published by Augsburg Fortress. That devotional has now been moved to this site and can be found under the Quiet Devotions tab. I also blog at www.KarenGoltz.com, where I reflect on religious issues as well as the writing life. I hope you find the resources on this site helpful in your spiritual journey.

Blessings,

Karen Goltz
